Jeanie Johnston visits Port Jefferson, Long Island

Jeanie Johnston will be docked in Port Jefferson from Monday, 14th July, after sailing from New York. The ship will be open to visitors on Tuesday 15th July and Wednesday 16th July at the Village Pier, and will depart for Newport, Rhode Island on Thursday 17th July, arriving on Friday 18th July.

Dates the ship is open to visitors and locations:

  • Tuesday 15th and Wednesday 16th July - Village Pier, Port Jefferson.

    But don't just turn up at the ship - to enjoy the complete experience please go to the Jeanie Johnston Tour Booth at the Fair on Memorial Park across from Port Jefferson Village Hall. Once there, you will be escorted along an historical, guided walk with high school guides in costume giving presentations about the life and times during the mid 1800's.

  • The ship will arrive into Port Jefferson at approx 12 noon and will be greeted by a welcoming flotilla of local boats who will escort Jeanie to the Village Pier, where she will be moored during the visit.

    Other entertainment scheduled for the day of the ship's arrival on 14th July:

  • Emerald Evening, cocktail party at 6:45pm onboard the Jeanie Johnston
  • Irish Ceili (Dinner/Dance). The Ceili will be held upstairs at Danford's Inn in The Sail Loft, The Brookhaven Room and The Atrium. All rooms overlook the harbour where the Jeanie Johnston will be berthed. A spectacular entertainment programme is planned featuring Andy Cooney and his band.

    Tickets are available for a contribution of $150 for both the cocktail party and the Ceili, by calling Charlie McKenna at 631-331-3235 or they may be purchased online from the Port Jefferson Irish Fair website.

  • Championship Bagpipe bands will be performing throughout the Irish Fair.

    Jeanie is open for guided tours from 11.00am to 6pm on 15th and 16th July.
    Admission charges:
    $5 for all.

  • 9:30am: Gaelic Mass on the deck and pier of the Jeanie Johnston.
  • 11:30am: the Port Jefferson Irish Fair officially opens.
    A great music line up features: Black 47, Cherish The Ladies, The McKrells, Morning Star, Ceili Rain, Fathom, Skuttlebutt, Gael Force, Hadrain's Wall, Uisce and more. The marketplace will feature more than 45 vendors selling Irish-themed merchandise.
  • A semi-pro Gaelic Football Match. More details to follow.

    Schedule for Wednesday, July 16th
  • 9:30 am: Morning mass
  • Cocktail evening to be announced
  • The Fair continues until the closing ceremonies late that night.
