Jeanie Johnston will be docked in Newport, Rhode Island from Thursday, 17th July, after sailing from New York. The ship will be open to visitors from 17th to 18th July in Newport, and from 19th to 21st July in Providence, and will depart for Boston, Massachussetts on Monday 21st July, arriving there on Thursday 24th.

Dates the ship is open to visitors and locations:

  • Thursday 17th and Friday 18th July - State Pier, Washington Street, Newport.
    The ship is open to visitors on July 18th from 11am to 1pm.

  • Friday 18th to Monday 21st July - Ceremonial Dock, India Point Park, Providence.
    Open to visitors on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th July from 10.30am to 6pm.

    Thursday 17th July
  • The ship will arrive at the Newport State Pier on Washington Street at approx 9pm, where she will be welcomed by Newport City Councillor Rick O'Neill.
  • At 9.30pm there will be a Welcoming Reception with Irish music and refreshments - for further information please call 401-847-9122.

    Friday 18th July
  • 9am - Traditional Irish Country, hosted by Rep. Paul Crowley at Laforge Casino Restaurant, Bellevue Avenue. Tickets are $25 pp. Reservations are required, please call 401-847-0418 for more information.
  • 11am to 1pm: Tours of Jeanie Johnston. Blessing of the ship.
  • 1.30pm - Jeanie will leave Newport to sail to Providence, Rhode Island. Cannon salute and parade of sail via Newport Harbor.

    In addition to touring the ship, the following entertainment has been scheduled for your enjoyment, all entertainment is free of charge:

    Saturday 19th July
  • 12 noon to 1:45pm - The Garda Band will play, and also a duo led by Daren Delaney, playing all the popular Irish favorites.
  • 1:45pm to 2:15pm - Nevin Academy of Irish Dance - A renowned troupe of 15 Irish step dancers will perform traditional Irish dance. A crowd favorite.
  • 2:15pm to 4pm The Publicans - A traditional Irish music band led by Rich Danforth on the Uillean Pipes and tin whistle, with Mike Kashura on Guitar / Vocals, and Al Gregoire on bodhran/vocals.

    Sunday 20th July
  • 12 noon to 1:45pm: The Alleged Ceili Band - Bob Drouin leads a talented group of Irish session players on a highly entertaining toe-tapping journey through Irish traditional music.
  • 1:45pm to 2:15pm Irish Step Dancers
  • 2:15pm to 4:00pm Pendragon - One of the region’s top Irish bands. Pendragon’s award winning musicians will highlight the weekend’s activities celebrating the visit of the Jeanie Johnston.

    Food and drinks will be available onsite, also balloons and face-painting for children, so please come along and enjoy a family day out.

    Admission charges to tour the ship
    $6.00 for adults
    $4.00 for children. Under 5 admitted free
